Background
With our background in overseas, filming in remote and hazardous locations. We were introduced to British entrepreneur, Michael Pritchard MBE. Michael invented the revolutionary clean and safe drinking water system The Lifesaver. Michael came up with the idea for The Lifesaver back in 2007 after seeing the horrific events of the Tsunami in December 2004 and Hurricane Katrina in August 2005. Michael felt compelled to try and create something that allowed people all over the world to turn dirty, diseased water, into safe, sterile drinking water.
By 2012, their technology had moved on from its initial 1-litre-sized water bottle that could sterilise water instantaneously. They were now working in remote parts of the world to install their M1 system, a bigger system that could provide instant clean water to villages. We were asked to put a film team together to follow Michael on a trip to Borneo and make a series of films covering some of the installation work that was being carried out.
Logistics
Through our background in corporate film, we knew the film content we needed to cover but logistically this 8-day filming project required intensive planning in terms of travelling the crew to remote areas, having the correct visas, filming permissions and carnets (for the film kit to enter and exit the country) and emergency medical & evacuation cover.
Our production management team worked to find a local fixer in Borneo who would look after all the in-country travel, local permissions and translators and provide vehicles as well as boats to reach some of the more remote parts of the shoot locations.
Promo Video Creative
We put a full schedule together and shot enough material to make a full 25’ documentary-style, promo video following Michael’s visit to the various installation sites as well as following some of the installation teams travelling to remote villages to install the safe water drinking system. We also interviewed local villagers and village chiefs to get an understanding of the benefits the M1 system would bring them. We also shot product (PAC) shots, a couple of infomercials and testimonials as well as a short film to explain the genesis of The Lifesaver.
Within 3 days of returning from Malaysia, Michael was due to speak at a UN conference in New York, therefore we quickly got the footage into the edit within 24 hours of retuning and turned around content for Michael to use in his presentation. We liaised directly with the AV team at the venue to ensure we provided the necessary compatible formats.
