Promotional Videos

A promotional video for your business can help increase both revenue and awareness of your brand. A well made company promotional video will allow you to shine a spotlight on exactly what your business does; showcasing your services, staff, products and your unique offer.  A business promotional video, when compared to a printed page or just text on a webpage, just looks more professional and will help you achieve higher customer conversation rates. Statista.com showed that in 2022 worldwide consumers watched an average of 19 hours of online video content every week.

Promotional videos for business are some of the most powerful marketing tools available. And once you’ve made your video you can use that power to promote your business anywhere: from tradeshows & exhibitions to your website as well as using shorter clips for use on social media, through to tender opportunities and client presentations.  We pride ourselves on making business promotional films that will increase sales, engagement and reputation.

So whether you’re looking to promote your company or to promote your services, Picture Lock Films can make that happen. We have a 35+ year track record of making both broadcast & corporate video content with extensive experience of making live action, animation and VR (virtual reality) promotional films.

What can we do

Why not use the power of a business promotional video for your next project, a promotional film can bring excitement to product launches, events, marketing campaigns and will increase awareness as well as projecting a certain level of prestige. Let’s face it, moving images in a promotional film are always going to be far more engaging and entertaining for your audience than a static presentation.  Creating a promotional video for your company will entice and inform your target audience as well as adding value to your messaging and your brand.

Some of the types of promotional films & animation we excel at making include:

  • Product & service videos
  • Explainer videos
  • Product launch videos
  • Event & conference videos

Product & Service Videos - Greentech

Greentech is part of Edmundson Electrical, a specialist division that supplies renewable energy products to both trade and industry. The business initially wanted a corporate video making to help with a tender opportunity, but the clients saw the potential and impact that a longer promotional film could have. The video would be seen across multiple customer touch points; from their branch network to their social media channels. We produced a Greentech promotional video highlighting their ‘offer’, their locations, their service proposition as well as the manufacturers they work with.

Product Launch Videos - Lifesaver

Are you looking for a corporate video to support or promote a project that’s outside of the UK? Creating a promotional video abroad isn’t a problem for Picture Lock Films, as we have an extensive track record of filming promotional videos in overseas and remote locations. We made a series of corporate and promotional videos for British entrepreneur, Michael Pritchard MBE. Who invented the revolutionary clean and safe drinking water system; The Lifesaver. We put a small team together to make several promotional films on their clean water technology - The Lifesaver M1 - which was being launched and installed in remote villages in Borneo.

Explainer Videos - Veterans into Logistics

Using our expertise in the logistics sector, we made a promotional explainer video for the charity Veterans into Logistics. The charity, founded in 2020, works with former military personnel who often struggle with the transition back into civilian life. They were looking for a promotional film to explain their mission. The charity supports veterans into full-time employment by helping them gain their HGV licences. We made a live action explainer working with the charity's founder, some of the veterans who have used their services as well as their logistics partners who provide employment opportunities to the veterans. The promotional video will be used on-line as well as at events & conferences.

Creating a promotional video

Commissioning a promotional film or promotional animation for your business or organisation is a very similar process to commissioning any other form of corporate video content.  But if this is something you’re relatively new to, then don’t worry. We’ve tried to summarise some of the key factors you should consider when deciding to make your promo. This will help ensure you get the best ROI from your either promotional video/ promotional animation.

Creating a promotional video; let’s take a look at some of the elements you’ll need to consider when commissioning your own promotional video or animation. And if you’re unsure about any of the process then don’t worry we’re here to help on what’s best for your project.

1. What’s the aim for your promo video?

If you’ve decided you want to create a promotional film then you probably already have a clear idea or an objective of what you’d like your promo to be about. The more targeted you make your promo the clearer the messaging will be. Clearly your promotional film can include a number of themes, however a film may become confusing or feel overloaded if too many thoughts are included. We tend to advise the maxim of, less is more.

Here are some suggested questions to help you decide on the aims and goals for your promo:

  • Are you looking to educate your audience/customers?
  • Raise or improve your brand awareness around your offer?
  • Are you wanting to grow sales?
  • Generate leads/ or a call to action?

You may find that all these reasons for making your promo are equally important, that’s absolutely fine. But if that’s the case, you might be better off creating more than one promotional video to ensure each objective/goal is covered sufficiently. This is something we can help you with at our pre-production & discovery phase.

2. What’s the format & style of your promotional film?

Another thing you should ask yourself is what style and format will best suit your promo. Format: you can choose between live action or animation or even a mix of the two. Below is a brief summary of some of the styles your promo could use, and as a general rule of thumb both live action and animation will lend themselves to most. So, let’s take a quick look at some of the different options you have:

Introductory Videos

Introduce your company’s history, brand values, mission, team, etc. It does what it says on tin. The promo will allow your customers to have a better understanding of your company/organisation.

Explainer Videos

These styles of promotional videos are becoming really popular and can also be a fun and imaginative way – especially in animation – to talk about your products and/ or services.

Testimonial Videos

Promotional videos featuring existing customers & their experiences are a great way to showcase your company’s offer, expertise and track record of exceeding customers’ expectations.

Conference & Event Videos

Using your team/s and customers to author content to be used at conferences and events is a really authentic way to promote your company. These promotional videos can be useful in setting-up conference objectives, introducing the company to new employees/customers, celebrating success & even awards.

3. What’s the tone & voice of your promotional film?

This will all depend on the subject matter, and content of your promo. Your  promotional video could be; funny, formal, quirky, dramatic, a pastiche or just conversational. It’s important to know the tone you’d like to set from the start as this will inform how the voiceover script is written, the casting of any voiceover artist/s and/or actors, even the style of graphics, if any are required.

Some of the different styles of tone your promotional film could have include:

  • Conversational: Is an informal, more casual tone that comes across in a friendly and warm manner using colloquial language throughout.
  • Formal: Is clear and concise, to the point, with little exposition in the voiceover script; just the facts. Delivered in a more of a news reportage/documentary style form.
  • Humorous: Funnily enough, incorporates the use of humour throughout, both in the voiceover as well as in the visuals. The promotional film or promotional animation will have some deliberate moments to make your audience laugh and react accordingly.

4. Time please, how long is your promotional film?

Finally, the duration and your audience. An audience at either a conference or an event one could argue is a more ‘captive audience’ so will be required to engage with the conference / event content. Therefore, there is a case that durations for promotional content can possibly run longer allowing a more in-depth look at a subject. Or a longer film could be broken into separate sections to allow  your conference speakers to introduce them. Breaking-up a video will also allow for questions to be taken after each section is watched.  A well-made promotional film can hold an audience’s attention for at least 10-12 minutes or even longer depending on the subject matter.

For non-conference/ event audiences, these audiences will have other distractions, time constraints as well as a choice of other media to watch. Therefore, as a guide for both on-line content and face-to-face presentations we suggest between 4-7 minutes. For social media platforms the clips may need to be edited down to match users’ expectations. However, a promo film of 4-7 minutes can provide multiple clips for use across social media ensuring a great ROI for your promo.

Promotional Video FAQs

A promotional video – or promo – is a video used for businesses or organsitaions for the sole purpose of promoting a specific product, event, service or initiative. Promotional videos can take the shape of many different styles and formats. They can be made in live action or animation. But whatever the style or format they need grab your audience’s attention and draw them into wanting to learn more. Some of the different types of promotional videos we make are: Product & service  information videos, Explainer videos, Product launches and Event & conference videos.

A business promotional video is a useful  marketing and sales tool designed to introduce, inform and educate your audience/ customers about your services and products. A good promo video will be well structured, be precise, direct and able to get across all the key information about your business. As well as making a compelling case for people to use your services and/or products. This can be achieved through company insights, a well written voiceover script, case study examples and/or customer testimonials.

A lot of planning and thought goes into filming a promotional video, well it does at Picture Lock Films. We consider everything from the location/s, permissions to film, risk assessments, who the contributors should be, how long we need to film for and even the weather. Also equally important is what we want the finished promotional film to look like, including its length. We’ll prepare shooting scripts which cover, not only what we need to shoot for your promotional video, but how we might transition from one location to another or move onto a new subject. If we are interviewing staff or customers then we’ll prepare a list of appropriate questions in advance. For further reading on how we work  see our blog post all about choosing a video production company

Before filming commences we will have agreed dates and locations, plus any potential contributors needed, as well as how many days will be required to capture all the footage. On the day of the shoot, we will arrive at the agreed location at the agreed time, in advance we will have shared our call sheet/ schedule with you so you are aware of the day’s filming activities. We’ll identify the best places to film, then set our kit up and get cracking. Depending on the nature of the film we may start-off by filming the GVs (general views) of the business in operation. Or we may kick-off with the interviews, it’s all project specific.  For further reading on what to  expect on a shoot see our blog all about production terminology.

What’s inside, or the content, of your promotional video will have been discussed prior to filming, but a good promotional film should cover the following, at least:

Who are you? And what is your offer & USP?

What sets you apart from the competition?

What can customers/ users of your business/ service expect?

The messaging will be backed up with the appropriate footage  and interviews to give insights and real world examples. In some cases to ‘land’ and cover as much information as possible a scripted voiceover may be required. At our initial discovery stage we will have bottomed out your minimum requirements & aims for commissioning us to make your company promotional video which will ultimately inform us of what to include in your promo.

For us, any promotional video we make must have a story with some form of structure to take the viewer seamlessly from A to B. It also should be able to engage the audience within the first 10-20 seconds. If it can’t do that, then it’s not doing its job correctly. At Picture Lock Films we think a promotional video should be eye-catching, have great pictures, be well edited, use music and graphics. And if it does have audio you’ll want to hear what the speakers and any voiceover is saying clearly so we ensure it’s properly mixed prior to delivery.

The costs for your promotional video will be entirely governed by the ambition & scale of your project; plus the locations. Needless to say, we will be as cost effective as possible and look to achieve any economies of scale ensuring we deliver value for money for your promo. All our costs are calculated on the days required to deliver your promotional corporate video/ animation. Again, all this will have been discussed at our discovery & proposal stages of our corporate film making process. As an approximate guide: Animation and Infographic content can cost upwards of £750 to £2500 per minute (this will depend on the nature and complexity of the animation required.) Live action filming can start from between £550/£1000 upwards per minute (a minimum minutage to achieve this sort of cost per minute figure would be content that’s 3 minutes and above). As with any promotional /corporate video costs are dependent on the locations/ travel/ camera equipment needed/ length of filming needed to get the content/voice over artists and the number of days needed for all the editing etc.
